Your account and data

How do I delete my data?

Open Settings → Delete all my data. This permanently removes your account, conversation history, bookmarks and all associated data from our servers. It cannot be undone.

How do I clear just my conversations?

Open Settings → Clear conversation history. This clears your chat history but keeps your account and bookmarks.

Do you store my location?

No. Your coordinates are used on your device to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction, and are never stored on our servers.

Can I use Hidaya without an account?

Yes — prayer times, Qibla, dhikr and the daily verse all work as a guest. Asking questions requires an account so that your history and question allowance can be tied to you.

Hidaya Plus

What do I get?

Hidaya is free and includes 5 questions a day. Hidaya Plus raises that to 50 questions a day and supports the app's continued development.

How do I cancel?

Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so they're cancelled through Apple, not through us. On your iPhone, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Hidaya and choose Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period.

I paid but Hidaya Plus isn't showing

Open Settings → Restore purchases in the app. If it still doesn't appear, make sure you're signed in with the same Apple Account you purchased with, then email us and we'll sort it out.

I've hit my daily question limit

Your question allowance resets at midnight UTC. You can also upgrade to Hidaya Plus from Settings or your Profile for 50 questions a day.

Prayer times and Qibla

My prayer times don't match my mosque

Mosques use different calculation methods, and small differences are normal and expected. Open the settings row at the bottom of the Prayer tab to choose the method your community follows — ISNA, MWL, Makkah, Karachi, Egypt, Tehran or Jafari — and to set Asr to Standard or Hanafi.

Prayer times look wrong for my area

Hidaya needs location access to calculate times for where you are. Check iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Hidaya and make sure access is allowed. If you've recently travelled, reopen the app so it can refresh.

The Qibla compass seems inaccurate

Compasses are affected by nearby metal, magnets and phone cases. Move away from large metal objects and, if needed, calibrate by opening Apple's Compass app and following the on-screen prompt. The Qibla bearing itself is calculated from your coordinates, so an incorrect location will also produce an incorrect direction.

Notifications and widgets

I'm not getting prayer reminders

• Check that reminders are turned on in Settings → Prayer Reminders
• Check that notifications are allowed in iOS Settings → Notifications → Hidaya
• Prayer reminders need location access to know when your prayers are — allow location if prompted
• Make sure Focus modes or Do Not Disturb aren't silencing them

My widget isn't updating

Open the app once to let it refresh. iOS controls how often widgets are allowed to update, so there can be a short delay. Removing and re-adding the widget also forces a refresh.

About the guidance

Is Hidaya a replacement for a scholar?

No, and it isn't intended to be. Hidaya provides AI-generated guidance for educational purposes, with references you can check yourself. For rulings on personal, complex or sensitive matters, please consult a qualified scholar who knows your circumstances.

Why did I get an answer that doesn't match my school of thought?

Set your preference in Profile → School of Thought — Sunni, Shia or General — and Hidaya will answer accordingly. If an answer still looks wrong, use the thumbs-down button on the response; we review that feedback.

I found a mistake in an answer

Please tell us. Use the thumbs-down on the message, or email us with the question and what was wrong. Corrections from users are the most valuable feedback we receive.
